History reference works

Book-length histories

Book-length works on a time period (historical era or even the more recent past) are a good way to get a more substantial grasp of that period. They may also suggest additional resources to check - make the author's research work for you! To find history books, use the library catalog's advanced search form. Enter the terms describing the event or period or even  historic figure in which you're interested in the first search box, then use the next search box (selecting "Subject keywords") to enter the term "history."
