Research Services

An overview of how Research Services supports teaching, learning, and research

Who We Are, What We Do

Research Services (RS) is a team of librarians with varied specializations in teaching and curriculum, research, and learning technology. Our three-pronged program encompasses education, curricular support, and community building

1. Educational Program: Research Skills & Information Studies

Teaching, Faculty Consultations, Student Consultations, Tutorial & Materials Design

We aspire to design and deliver an educational program that is accessible to learners from all backgrounds. We embrace the diversity of our learners, and aim to teach in ways that are trauma-informed and accessible. We value inquiry, adventure, and creative problem-solving.

We support learning, and develop programming around research and information skills and information studies through:

  • our own teaching

  • faculty teaching consultations

  • student research consultations

  • creation of tutorials and learning materials for faculty and students

2. Curricular Support: Selection and Assessment of Library Tools & Materials

We value diverse voices and perspectives in the Mount Holyoke curriculum and Library collections. We engage in curricular mapping and collections assessment to support existing and emerging MHC academic programs and co curricular programming as a means of contributing to inclusive academic excellence and student success. We strive to maintain relevant collections both locally and at the Five Colleges level. Students and faculty are always welcome to suggest a purchase for the library’s collection using this form. Email a librarian to discuss library collections in your department or discipline at researchservices-g@mtholyoke.edu

3. Community Building

Ask LITS Board, Library Events and Programming, In Class Programming

We see the library as the heart of campus. Through our campus space and services, we support access to information, quiet reflection, and connection. In support of our community, we offer a variety of programs throughout the year ranging from Orientation, to Banned Books Week events, to Introvert Study Breaks (with snacks!). We also maintain the Ask LITS Board–a community space for student discourse, curiosity, and humor. Visit the Ask LITS Board or follow us on Instagram to answer our question of the week!
