Overview
The Language & Culture Commons (LCC) in the Ciruti Center for Languages is a friendly, accessible, and diverse space to engage in language and culture learning. Whether taking a class at Mount Holyoke, with the Five Colleges or learning just for fun, make sure to check out this wonderful resource!
Our goal is to foster collaborative innovation in the teaching and learning of languages and cultures throughout the campus. We focus on creative and effective uses of technology to promote language learning both inside and outside the classroom. Our role ultimately extends beyond physical resources as we aim to foster community and support.
The LCC is staffed by a Director and student consultants that are available during open hours to help you with your language and technical needs.
You can find detailed information about our center, staff, facilities, resources, events, and much more on our Commons Site here or on the LCC website.

.
The LCC has 4 small rooms available to reserve.
Circulation of Reserve Material
Books on reserve in the LCC or the main library may usually be checked out for 4 hours at a time. Use Discover to find books on reserve. You can search by course number, course name, or instructor. For electronic reserves, see your course in Moodle.
* Course numbers take the format of FREN-101. The same materials are sometimes intended to be on reserve for multiple courses; if you can't find the item under your course, try searching with only the department designator (e.g., FREN to search for all reserve items for all French courses or FREN-3 to search for all reserve items in 300-level French courses) in case the item might be listed under another course.
Leisure Reading Material
Throughout the LCC you can find various books for you to take, you don't actually need to check them out, for your leisure reading pleasure. Enjoy novels, comics, children's books, and more in different languages.
Films Available for Circulation
The LCC has a collection of DVDs that can be checked out for a 3 day rental in a variety of languages. Consult the full list here.
LITS also has an extensive library of films that you can search for by langauge.
Interested in streaming video? LITS subscribes to AVONopens in a new tab (Academic Video Online), a streaming service curated for an educational setting. Watch movies on your laptop from anywhere, both on and off-campus. All AVON movies come with limited public performance rights, so you can also show them in an auditorium to a public audience, as long as no admission is being charged.
