Course activities and resources may be imported from any other course in which the teacher has editing permissions. This allows teachers to re-use instead of re-create one or more activities or resources.
Imports of files between courses do not include most user data, or include grades. If you'd like to move a complete copy of user data as well, or make a single archive file of an entire course for your own records or to take elsewhere, see Creating a Course Backup File and Restoring a Course Backup to an Empty Course.
To reuse course materials from semester to semester in frequently taught courses, importing is usually the better choice. If you're not sure which method to use, please contact your LITS Liaison.
If you'd like to use the import function, see the instructions below.
How to import activities or resources
Start out by going to the course you would like to import materials into. In Course Administration>Settings, click on the Import link:
Select the course you wish to import from and click Continue.
You will be presented with the "backup settings" page. Use the check boxes to include activities, blocks, filters, etc. (whatever items you need) in the import then click Next.
The Schema settings/Include screen allows you to select the week or topic blocks and items within them that you wish to include (check to select) or exclude (uncheck to deselect) in the import. Click Next when you've finished with your selections.
The Confirmation and Review/Backup Settings screen allows you to review your import selections, showing green check marks for items you've chose to include, and red checkmarks for items you've chosen to exclude. If everything looks the way you want it, scroll to the bottom and click Perform import. Otherwise you can click the Previous button to go back and change your selections, or cancel the import entirely by clicking Cancel.
A progress bar will display as the import takes place. After a few moments, you should see an "Import complete. Click continue to return to the course." message if the import is successful, or an error message indicating that the import process did not take place.
Importing a quiz from one course to another will add the questions to the question bank in the target course for use in new quizzes.
