Moodle Quick Help Guide

Gradebook Setup

In the Administration menu of your course site (for instructors), there is a link called Grades, which when you click on it, will reveal a number of different reports and views you can use to interact with your gradebook. Here are the views you will most often encounter or need to use:

  • Grader report is the default view for instructors, who can open it and then click “Turn editing on” to start entering grades. This view is mainly used for grading rather than for setting up categories and calculations.
  • User report is the report about an individual user, and it is the view a student sees when they go to view their own grades in a course.
  • Single view is for viewing either a single user's grades, or every student's grades on a single grade item.
  • Gradebook Setup is where an instructor can see and modify how their gradebook breaks down into categories and items that contribute to the course total.
  • Course Grade Settings are more advanced settings for how the course total and different gradebook reports display.

There are many other options in this list of choices. For more information about different choices, open an option and then click on the Moodle Docs link at the bottom of the page.
