Editing your profile and changing your name

Each user has a personal profile in Moodle, which is drawn from your campus network account. A few things can be changed in Moodle, but for some, you will need to contact other offices on campus.

Adding a profile picture

Profile pictures are uploaded from the official OneCard photos. Users are welcome to update their profile pictures, particularly if your appearance has changed significantly since your OneCard photo. Please make sure your picture clearly depicts you, and that it will be helpful to instructors and other students who may be trying to match faces to names of colleagues and classmates.
  1. Once you have logged in, click on the menu with your name and photo in the upper right corner. Choose Profile.

  2. Click Edit profile in the top center box.

  3. Scroll to the section labeled “User picture.”

  4. Drag and drop the file from your computer into the new picture field. Alternatively, click [Add] to locate an appropriate image on your computer. The picture must be in JPG or PNG format. Moodle will crop and resize the image into a 100x100 pixel square, and the file size should be less than 10mb.

  5. Once selected, click Update profile at the bottom of your editing screen.

  6. Refresh your browser if the profile image hasn't changed.

Updating other fields

  1. There are numerous preference settings you can adjust.

  2. Do NOT edit or delete your ID number field. Doing so will prevent automatic enrollment in courses.

  3. You may wish to include some of the following information:

  • Web page address

  • IDs for common peer-to-peer and social networking sites (e.g., Skype, AIM)

  • Department

  • Phone numbers

  • Campus Address

  1. Click Update profile at the bottom of your editing screen to submit your changes.

Information that cannot be updated

Much of the information in the top section of the Edit profile page is drawn from your network account. Changes made to this information will not be retainedthe next time you log in, it will revert to the information associated with your campus account.  Please do not edit the following:

  • Username

  • Password

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Email address—this should always be your campus email address

  • ID number field

Note that nothing that is entered into the Additional Names fields will currently display.  They can be edited, but it has no effect.  Please see Changing your name, below, for information on how to have a different name display.‚Äč

 

Changing your name
If you are a student who would like to change your preferred name, please contract the Registrar.
If you are a faculty or staff member who would like to change your preferred name, please contact Human Resources.
