Featured databases and search engines

  • Persee makes available online runs of referenced, French-language journals in the field of the social and human sciences. Launched in 2004, the initiative is overseen by the French Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research.
  • JSTOR A multidisciplinary database that includes many journals relating to French Studies, Language, and Linguistics. Note that JSTOR does not include the most recent issues of journals.
  • Project MUSE A full-text database that contains articles in the humanities and social sciences. Includes several French Studies journals.

Discipline-specific research databases (literature, film, history, etc.)

  • Arts and Humanities Citation Index (1980-present) - A major index to thousands of humanities journals. Available online via the Web of Science (select the Arts and Humanities Citation Index).
  • MLA International Bibliography (1963-present)
    Critical scholarship on literature, languages, linguistics and folklore. Tip: in the Search Options, you can limit your results to the French language.
  • Film and Television Literature Index with Full Text (1980 - present) - Film and television theory, production, cinematography, reviews, and more. Some full-text is available.
  • Historical Abstracts (1954- ) Indexes and provides abstracts for articles on the history of the world (other than the US and Canada) from 1450 to the present.
