Welcome to the Creative Writing Research Guide
This guide offers ideas for places to start your research when preparing to write a story, novel or poem. It is not comprehensive, so keep in mind that a good way to approach these pages is to recognize that the types of resources suggested are often geographically specific. For instance, you might learn from the Place tab/page that field guides are a good resource for finding information about the natural world. The examples given are all North American, but now that you know that there's a type of reference work known as a field guide, you could do a keyword search in the catalog on those terms and another location (e.g. "field guide Africa") to find information about the natural world for the geographic location of your choice.
Use the tabs at the top of the page to start your research
Every subject area has a LITS liaison who specializes in the technology tools and library materials used in that discipline. Don't hesitate to contact any liaison to request a reference consultation or a bibliographic instruction session at the library for your class, ask a research question, or to suggest purchasing books or other materials to add to our collection.
